Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has initiated the installation of Electronic Cash Registers (ECRs) in various businesses registered for Goods and Services Tax (GST) as part of a broader strategy to improve tax compliance and streamline transactions.
The rollout, which began with businesses in the construction and electronics sectors, aims to modernize the retail environment and ensure accurate sales reporting while minimizing tax evasion.
Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura leads this initiative, supported by the Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Department, James B. Tengebeh, and Deputy Commissioner Edwin E. Conteh.
The installation process includes comprehensive training for business owners and their staff to ensure they are well-equipped to utilize the new system, which boasts enhanced tracking capabilities and real-time data reporting.
“This is a pivotal step towards digitizing our economy and ensuring that all businesses contribute their fair share to national revenue,” Mrs. Bangura stated, highlighting that the initiative is designed to ease the burden of business transactions while promoting transparency and accountability.
Business owners have responded positively to the NRA’s efforts. Mr. Zakharia Khoury, owner of Khoury Building Materials, noted that the new device has made transactions much more seamless.
