The elections follow months of preparations under the supervision of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), which monitored compliance with electoral laws and the SLPP’s internal regulations.

In February, the PPRC emphasized the need for democratic conduct, while the SLPP’s national secretariat issued strict guidelines to ensure transparency. The party also suspended members who took legal action against it abroad and mandated reconciliation efforts in the UK and Ireland branch.

The SLPP is now preparing for regional and national executive elections, culminating in a National Delegates Conference on July 31 and August 1, 2025, where remaining leadership positions will be decided.

Critics have noted the absence of women in the newly elected district leadership, raising questions about gender representation within the party.
