Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio has made a powerful call for unity within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), urging supporters to set aside personal rivalries and focus on securing victory in the 2028 general elections.
The President’s statement was delivered on Saturday, June 28, 2025, during a celebratory event at the State Lodge in Freetown, organized by First Lady Fatima Bio to honor his recent election as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Addressing a jubilant crowd of SLPP supporters, President Bio emphasized the importance of a unified front as the party prepares for internal decisions ahead of the next presidential race. “Let us put our emotions aside and work towards ensuring that our upcoming flag bearer becomes the next President of Sierra Leone,” he declared.
The call for focus and cooperation was met with cheers and applause, underscoring the party’s loyalty to its leader.
During his speech, President Bio expressed his gratitude for the celebration, framing his new ECOWAS role as a fulfillment of a key promise. “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. For me, this was just an accomplishment of a promise I made that I will put Sierra Leone back on the map,” he said. He added that the country should be proud, as it is “setting the bar high” on the regional stage.
