Court Orders SLFA to Respond to Disqualified Aspirant

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has instructed the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to respond within three days to an appeal filed by disqualified presidential candidate Aminata Bangura ahead of the association’s 2 August elections.

In a three-page submission, the Lausanne-based court outlined timelines for the proceedings, which could extend for weeks, while also considering Bangura’s request for an expedited ruling before the election date.

Bangura was disqualified by the SLFA on 18th July, alongside incumbent president Thomas Brima, after both failed integrity checks conducted by the association’s ethics committee. While Bangura has formally appealed the decision to CAS, it remains unclear whether Brima will follow suit, though he has vowed to take action.

With the election just eight days away, Babadi Kamara and Umaru Bah are the only approved candidates remaining in the presidential race.

FIFA, football’s global governing body, has insisted that the SLFA elections proceed as scheduled on 2 August to ensure leadership legitimacy. The court’s decision could significantly impact the electoral process if Bangura’s appeal is upheld.CAS
