Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Sierra Leone paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

The meeting aimed to reaffirm their long-standing partnership and explore avenues for strengthened collaboration aligned with the Minister’s vision for the nation’s young people.

UNFPA, the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency, is dedicated to ensuring every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.

Discussions during the engagement centered on youth empowerment through innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills development. UNFPA reiterated its commitment to unlocking the potential of young people, underscoring its close working relationship with the Ministry of Youth Affairs.

With Sierra Leone’s youth constituting a significant portion of the population, both parties stressed the urgent need to equip them with the necessary tools, platforms, and opportunities to succeed in an ever-changing world.

“Our young people are the heartbeat of this nation,” stated Minister Sannoh. “If we invest in their potential, we invest in the future of Sierra Leone.”

UNFPA echoed this sentiment, reaffirming its dedication to supporting impactful youth programs, particularly in often-overlooked areas. The discussions also addressed critical issues such as mental health awareness, the increasing challenge of substance abuse, and the vital need for access to accurate sexual and reproductive health information and services.

The visit concluded with a mutual pledge to enhance collaboration, amplify youth voices, and jointly develop programs that not only inspire but also empower young people to lead with confidence, courage, and creativity.

This renewed partnership signals a new chapter in fostering a Sierra Leone where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
