Sierra Leone Premier League Relegation Battle Final Day

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The 2025 Sierra Leone Premier League enters a decisive stage today, Saturday, 23 August, as six matches are scheduled to conclude the season. Four fixtures carry significant implications for the relegation battle, with one final spot still to be decided.

Freetown City FC, Bullom Stars, and Kamboi Eagles have already been relegated to the lower division. The final relegation place will be determined between Mighty Blackpool and Abacha City, with both sides under pressure to secure their top-flight status.

Mighty Blackpool currently sit 15th with 37 points. A win against Wilberforce Strikers would take them to 40 points, but their survival also depends on the outcome of Abacha City’s match against title contenders Bhantal FC.

Abacha City, in 14th place with 38 points, will be safe if they win. Should they collect all three points, and Wusum Stars and Diamond Stars also secure victories, Blackpool would be relegated regardless of their result. Conversely, if Abacha City fail to win and Blackpool triumph, the Tis-Tas Boys could avoid the drop.

Ahead of the decisive clash, Mighty Blackpool have raised concerns over an unresolved protest regarding Diamond Stars’ alleged use of ineligible players. The club claims Ibrahim Souri and Ishmael Jalloh featured in their 31 July meeting at Koidu Field, mirroring an earlier case in which Star Sports were awarded points and Diamond Stars fined Le1,000. Blackpool argue that a similar ruling in their favour would already have guaranteed their safety.

The league’s disciplinary committee has yet to issue a decision on the matter. Despite this, Mighty Blackpool have confirmed they will honor today’s fixture as they continue their fight for survival.

With one relegation place still undecided, today’s matches are expected to provide one of the fiercest season finales in recent Sierra Leone Premier League history. Fans across the country will be watching closely to see which team will join the relegated trio in dropping to the lower division.
