Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has officially commenced construction of a modern Customs Border Control and Management facility at the Jendema crossing point on the Sierra Leone–Liberia border.

According to the NRA, the new facility aims to enhance trade facilitation, improve revenue collection, and strengthen border security between the two countries.

Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura described the project as a critical step toward streamlining cross-border trade and modernizing customs operations.

“Once completed, this new facility will serve as a hub for efficiency, transparency, and cooperation at our border. It reflects government’s commitment to revenue modernization and sustainable economic growth,” she stated.

The NRA further explained that the decision to construct the facility was influenced by growing business activity and the expansion of revenue opportunities along the Liberia border.

Key features of the project include:

Deployment of digital tax administration systems such as ASYCUDA WORLD.

Real-time monitoring technology for border operations.

Expanded office space for customs officials and partner institutions.

The project, which is fully funded by the NRA, is scheduled for completion within three months. Officials say the facility is expected to reduce clearance times, increase trade volumes, and improve revenue tracking, with positive effects on both Sierra Leone’s economy and the wider Mano River region.
