Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Friends of Yoni Community Bank Foundation, established in 2021, has awarded scholarships and donated learning materials to pupils who excelled in the 2025 National Primary School Examination (NPSE) across Yoni Mamaila, Yoni Mabanta, Kholifa Mabang, and Malal Chiefdoms.

The award ceremony was held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Yoni Community Bank complex.

Speaking at the event, Foundation Chairman Mohamed Yamba Kamara said the theme of the scholarship, “Pay Back to Society,” reflects the spirit behind the creation of the Foundation.

“Yoni Community Bank has contributed greatly to the development of these communities, and we are complementing that effort,” he said. He added that the Foundation seeks to promote the good name of the Bank while supporting education and community progress.

As schools reopen, Kamara urged parents to use the scholarship funds responsibly. “We call on parents to take their children’s schooling seriously and also urge the pupils to be dedicated and make society proud,” he added.

Secretary General Abdul Armany Kamara described the initiative as a celebration of academic excellence. “We are honoring pupils who performed outstandingly in the NPSE.

As a foundation, we are passionate about education and development, which is why we are celebrating them,” he said. He further disclosed plans to expand into other development areas and encouraged Yoni Community Bank account holders to join the Foundation.

Scholarship recipients included Rebecca Koroma of RC Primary School Yonibana, who scored an aggregate of 312; Haja Conteh of Benevolent Islamic Primary School, Mabai, with 285; and Fatmata Kamara, among others. Each beneficiary received books, pens, and Le500.

Yoni Community Bank Manager Yusufu Victor Kabia commended the Foundation for giving back to society and promoting the Bank’s image. He encouraged the pupils to remain focused and hardworking, stressing that the Bank remains committed to serving community members.

Parents and pupils expressed gratitude, describing the scholarships as “a blessing in disguise.”

Other speakers included members of the Bank’s Board, representatives from the Sierra Leone Teachers Union, the Ministry of Education, the Headteachers Council, the Council of Principals, and community stakeholders.

The ceremony concluded with a one-minute silence in honor of the late Joseph Sheka Koroma, a founding member of the Foundation.
