Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has said the party’s strength and large membership have attracted outside political interest aimed at creating division within the party.

Speaking during an online interview, he gave updates on the SLPP’s ongoing reconciliation work to address internal conflicts among members.

Mambu explained that the SLPP currently has about 4.1 million members nationwide. This large base has made the party a target for rival political parties who want to weaken its unity ahead of upcoming elections. He noted that these rival parties are hoping to create confusion within the SLPP so they can benefit from any members who might leave the party.

He said the party, like any large group, faces internal disagreements but stressed that the leadership is committed to resolving these issues through peaceful talks. The aim is to stop problems before they grow and divide the party. Mambu added that the leadership is working hard to bring members together and maintain a strong sense of unity.

Highlighting the party’s strength across the country, Mambu said the SLPP is strong not only in its traditional areas in the south and east but also in the north-west. He pointed out that the party controls Falaba District and has about 39 percent of the votes in Kambia District, areas where such support is unusual for a party from the south-east. This shows that the SLPP is expanding its reach and gaining new support beyond its usual regions.

He also said the SLPP continues to hold a large majority in the Western Area, with numbers that are far ahead of other parties. He added that this wide support across different regions is one of the reasons rival political parties are trying to cause confusion within the SLPP. Their aim, he said, is to break the party apart so that the members who leave can be added to their own sides.

Mambu said the current SLPP leadership is focused on including all members in the reconciliation process, making sure no one is left behind as they prepare for elections. This approach, he said, is aimed at building a strong and united party that can maintain its support across the country. He explained that the party wants to work with everyone and ensure that all voices are heard in order to strengthen the SLPP’s position.

He added that any signs of disagreement within the party will be taken seriously and addressed quickly. The SLPP plans to handle all issues internally, treating them as family matters to prevent divisions from growing larger. The reconciliation process is ongoing in various districts and the party hopes to complete it before campaign activities begin. Mambu expressed confidence that the efforts will help bring lasting peace and unity to the party.
