Salwaco Launches Nationwide Action Against Water Defaulters

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has announced a nationwide campaign to recover outstanding water bills from individuals and institutions that continue to default on payments.

According to SALWACO, the growing problem of unpaid bills has placed significant pressure on the company’s operations, undermining cash flow and overall productivity.

Management believes that if customers consistently honored their obligations, the company would be on a stronger path toward financial independence.

As part of the new measures, all SALWACO staff have been directed to intensify revenue collection, marketing, and stakeholder engagement in order to minimize the number of defaulters. The company has also vowed to disconnect water supply to chronic debtors until arrears are cleared.

Managing Director Ing. George Lamin Vandi, who is leading the initiative, said the campaign is aimed at ensuring accountability and protecting the company’s financial health.

“All individuals and institutions owing the company will be brought to book and made to settle their debts in line with our policies,” he stated. “Letters have already been issued to defaulters, and we expect full compliance.”

He emphasized that the campaign is not just about enforcement but about sustaining the company’s ability to deliver reliable water services nationwide.

At its recent general retreat, themed “Revenue Generation for Sustainable Development,” SALWACO’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to strategic management and effective debt collection as key steps toward mobilizing resources in the best interest of the institution.

The company maintains that the drive is result-oriented, designed to strengthen service delivery and ensure that its long-term goals and aspirations are met.
