Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Publicity Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC), Alhaji Sidi Yahya Tunis, has reaffirmed the party’s ability to stand firm and deliver on its objectives, describing the APC as a “formidable political force.”
Speaking in an interview with Liberty Online TV, Tunis emphasised that there is nothing the APC intends to do that it cannot achieve. He pointed out that constitutional and electoral reforms must ultimately return to the people for a referendum, stressing that parliament alone cannot decide such matters.
“If someone is talking, it is one thing, but the person needs to understand what he or she is talking about. If the APC decides to change the electoral system, it should not end with parliament—even if parliament votes, it still requires the people,” Tunis stated.
He further questioned whether the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has the necessary numbers in parliament to push through changes on its own, adding, “We all know how things are happening in parliament.”
Tunis highlighted that the APC does not issue press releases without thorough internal consultations and discussions, noting that the party always explains its position after careful deliberation.
“We are focused as a political party. We know what we are up to. We know how prepared and how ready we are,” he concluded.
