Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Leone Stars have arrived safely in Morocco ahead of their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Djibouti on Sunday at Stade Larbi Zaouli stadium in Casablanca.

The team was warmly received on arrival and has settled into camp to begin final preparations for the match.

The players and technical staff remain confident of securing a victory against the Sharks of the Red Sea.

Sierra Leone’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup were dealt a significant blow on Wednesday as they suffered a 1–0 defeat to Burkina Faso in their CAF Group A qualifier.

The match, held at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, Liberia, saw Burkina Faso’s Mohamed Zougrana score the decisive goal in the 43rd minute, just before halftime.

With this result, Sierra Leone remains in third place in Group A with 12 points from eight matches, trailing second-place Burkina Faso by three points and group leaders Egypt by eight points. The top team in the group qualifies directly for the World Cup, while the second-place team may advance to the inter-confederation play-offs, depending on their performance compared to other group runners-up.

Despite a strong performance and significant possession, Sierra Leone was unable to break down Burkina Faso’s defense.

The defeat also ends Sierra Leone’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup as the team can no longer finish in the top two of their qualifying group.
