Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Plan International Sierra Leone has deepened its collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA).

The agreement, signed on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, forms part of the organisation’s continued commitment to advancing gender equality and strengthening child protection systems nationwide, as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary of service in Sierra Leone next year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Plan International’s Country Director, Mrs. Muniratu Issifu, expressed appreciation to the Ministry for its leadership in promoting the rights of women and children. She emphasized that gender equality remains central to the organization’s mission, particularly in communities where women and girls face heightened vulnerabilities.

Issifu highlighted Plan International’s five-year country strategy, noting that it outlines shared responsibilities with government in addressing children’s welfare, promoting women’s rights, and enhancing community resilience.

“This MoU is designed to strengthen our partnership for future collaboration and complement the government’s efforts,” she emphasized.

She further underscored key areas of collaboration captured in the agreement, including institutional capacity building, policy advocacy, and support for national frameworks such as the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act.

Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Hon. Dr. Isata Mahoi, welcomed the strengthened partnership, reaffirming her Ministry’s unwavering dedication to women’s empowerment and child protection.

She praised Plan International for its role in expanding education, protection services, and empowerment initiatives in underserved communities.

“This MoU is designed to strengthen our partnership for future collaboration and complement the government’s efforts,” Dr. Mahoi noted.

The ceremony concluded with an official photo session marking the signing of the agreement, symbolizing a renewed commitment to promoting gender equality, empowering women, and safeguarding the rights and welfare of every child in Sierra Leone.

Plan International also recently signed a similar Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Social Welfare, marking a renewed commitment to improving coordination and strengthening national mechanisms for the protection and support of vulnerable groups across Sierra Leone.
