Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, announced at the weekly government press conference on 18 November 2025, that the Ministry will host Sierra Leone’s largest Civic Festival from December 11-13 this year at Youyi Building.

The three-day event will bring together all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), plus NGOs and the Private Sector to showcase national development to the people of Sierra Leone. It will also feature panel discussions, cultural and art exhibitions, film shows, Quiz and Debate competition and a Civic unity concert.

Furthermore, the festival will host international guest speakers like Dr Mavuso Msinmang from South Africa, Dr Thoai Ngo from the United States, Daniel Obst, the CEO of AFS from the United States, UNESCO Regional Director General and many others across the world. Meanwhile, Minister Bah addressed the Festival date clash with the country’s Entertainment Ambassador Kao Denero’s show on 13th December.

He said the Ministry has resolved the issue amicably and that both parties are fired up to ensure that the Ministry’s Festival and Kao Denero’s show are successful.

In another development, Minister Bah provided an update on the alleged discovery of cocaine in a container from Sierra Leone in Nigeria. He clarified that an investigation by the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) found that the container left Sierra Leone empty with a weight of 2,200kg, the standard weight for an empty 20ft container.

This is according to records from shipping company Grimaldi Lines and the Container Terminal Operator from the port of Freetown. The investigation further disclosed that the container arrived in Nigeria and was discharged on the 30th of October 2025. Eight days later, on 7th November 2025, the Nigerian authorities reported finding an alleged substance suspected to be cocaine.

Minister Chernor Bah emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to fighting against illegal drugs in the country.
