Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Every Nation College has taken decisive disciplinary action after uncovering widespread examination malpractice and suspected cult-related activities involving students across several departments.
To safeguard academic integrity and reinforce its zero-tolerance stance on cultism, the institution has rusticated 34 students for one year.
The announcement was made by the Principal, Mr. Christian Johnson, during an interview on Radio New Song’s governance program Satellite. He said the students were found culpable following a rigorous, evidence-based investigation into misconduct during the second-semester examinations.
According to Mr. Johnson, the probe began after several students were caught engaging in examination malpractice. Two students who accused each other of sharing leaked exam questions via WhatsApp were asked to submit their phones as part of the inquiry.
During a review of the devices, the investigative committee uncovered a WhatsApp group titled ENC Black Family, which raised suspicions of cult-related activities. This discovery prompted the committee to widen its investigation.
More than 50 video clips linked to known students were later uncovered. Some of the videos showed students dressed in all-black attire at what appeared to be an “After Exam Party,” heightening concerns. Identified students were questioned, and their affiliations traced. Mr. Johnson said many pleaded for leniency, but the evidence remained overwhelming.
He reiterated the seriousness of the misconduct and affirmed the institution’s firm stance. “Every Nation College maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice and cultism. We will not accept these practices in any form on our campus. This decision sends a strong message to all,” he stated. He added that while cultism typically results in outright expulsion, the one-year rustication was granted following appeals from key stakeholders.
The investigation also implicated faculty members. Mr. Johnson confirmed that several lecturers were dismissed after being found directly involved in examination malpractice, though none were connected to cult activities.
As part of broader disciplinary reforms, the college has issued a stern warning to all unapproved groups operating on campus, ordering them to cease immediately or face serious consequences.
Mr. Johnson reminded students of the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and moral development. He encouraged them to take full advantage of the college’s modern learning facilities and avoid actions that could jeopardize their future.
