Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The EBEMA Movement, a influential bloc within the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has declared it will rally behind any candidate who emerges as the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2028 elections, including potential contenders like Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh.
The statement was made by Wusu Dadidda Jalloh, Spokesperson for the Office of the First Lady, during a recent television engagement. It addresses growing speculation within the SLPP regarding the movement’s stance on future leadership.
The “Ebema” movement gained prominence earlier in 2025 during internal Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) elections, where it was perceived to be in strong opposition to the “Radical Inclusion Movement” (RIM) led by Chief Minister Dr. David Sengeh, who is widely considered a potential successor to President Julius Maada Bio.
Campaign flyers promoting First Lady Fatima Jabbie Maada Bio as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, inscribed with slogans like “Ebema” and “After Bio Na Bio,” circulated widely on social media in June, igniting public speculation about her political ambitions.
However, speaking in a television interview, Jalloh described Dr. Sengeh as a “respected figure” within the party but emphasized that the movement’s primary allegiance is to the SLPP’s collective interest and democratic processes. Jalloh stressed that the focus for all SLPP-affiliated groups remains on governance, continuity, and maintaining the party’s developmental agenda, adding that the party is “at war against the APC,” not against itself.
“Whoever is given the mandates by delegates of the party as Flagbearer, everybody in the party will support,” Jalloh stated.
“David Sengeh is part of EBEMA. The movement is a positive movement in the SLPP,” Jalloh stated. “Whoever is given the mandate by delegates of the party as Flagbearer, everybody in the party will support.”
Jalloh also acknowledged the possibility of the First Lady seeking the position, noting her historical support for the party: “If the First Lady Fatima Bio also decides to run for President and she is given the flagbearer role, everybody in the party will support as well.”
The statement by jalloh is seen by political analysts as an early indication of the internal dynamics of the ruling party, signaling the start of a defining contest for the 2028 flagbearer position, while simultaneously emphasizing unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
