Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Police has confirmed the deportation of fifty-four Sierra Leoneans from neighboring Guinea following their arrest in the border town of Dubreka, Kindia region.

Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, disclosed that the individuals were detained by Guinean security personnel for loitering without lawful authority, while some were found residing in the country without valid identification documents.

The Police Chief assured that all deportees were thoroughly screened at the border before being returned to their respective communities in Sierra Leone. “We ensured proper verification and screening procedures were conducted to confirm their identities before they were released to their families,” IGP Sellu noted.

Reports indicate that Guinean authorities have stepped up security surveillance across border points with Sierra Leone and Liberia.

This comes amid recent arrests of Sierra Leoneans in Conakry linked to drug trafficking, particularly the smuggling of the harmful substance known locally as Kush.
