Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has teamed up with the Sierra Leone Police to hold a workshop and training session focused on tackling corruption within the police force.
The event brought together leaders from both organizations to build a stronger working relationship and find ways to deal with corruption.
Held today at the Police Wives Association Multi-Purpose Hall in Kingtom, the session gave the leadership of both institutions a chance to meet, share ideas, and talk about steps that can help improve integrity and accountability within the police force. It was aimed at encouraging better cooperation in addressing corruption.
The session, which was themed “Mainstreaming Integrity in the Operations of Law Enforcement Agencies,” focused on building trust through openness, better practices, and shared responsibility. Stakeholders from both the ACC and the police took part in group sessions and discussions on how to bring honesty and clear standards into everyday police work.
This effort follows the recent Afrobarometer report, which, like earlier reports, named the police as one of the institutions where the public feels more work is needed to improve how corruption is viewed and handled. The report has led both the ACC and police leadership to act and work more closely.
The training was described as practical, focusing on real challenges and possible solutions to help the police respond better to public concerns. It is part of ongoing work by the police leadership to improve openness and show a willingness to address corruption within the force.
Inspector General Fayia Sellu and his team attended and took part in the session. Their involvement showed support for continued teamwork between the police and the ACC.
ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala said the session is part of efforts to work with the police to control corruption and help rebuild public trust. He spoke about the need to keep working together to improve how the police operate.
Both the ACC and the Sierra Leone Police plan to continue working together to strengthen accountability in the police force and across the country, with the goal of making lasting improvements for the benefit of the public.
At the end of the session, officers and representatives from both the ACC and the Sierra Leone Police agreed to keep working side by side to build a police force that serves the people with honesty and fairness.
