Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. In a strong display of leadership and strategic vision, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Francis Brima Meinday has officially assumed his role as Regional Commander of the Eastern Region with a rallying call for action.
During a high-level operational meeting with all unit commanders, AIG Meinday underscored his dedication to proactive policing and the ongoing reform of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
The meeting, held at the Regional Headquarters in Kenema City, brought together heads of all operational and administrative units. The purpose was to collaboratively outline a clear strategy to combat crime and elevate policing standards across the region.
In his opening address, AIG Meinday highlighted the urgent need for a well-coordinated, responsive, and disciplined police force capable of effectively managing emergencies and protecting communities.
He expressed confidence that the Sierra Leone Police Force is on the brink of a transformative phase—one that sincerely serves the people of Sierra Leone—achieved through committed leadership at every level.
He urged commanders to develop strong, responsive teams equipped not just with law enforcement tools but also with a profound sense of duty, vigilance, and professionalism. Emphasizing the importance of quick responses to distress calls and emergencies, he noted that these are vital to enhancing the Force’s credibility and effectiveness.
Leadership visibility and accountability were also central themes. AIG Meinday stressed that commanders must exercise firm supervisory control over their personnel to ensure officers uphold the highest standards of service delivery and integrity.
Another critical focus was on information management. He encouraged prompt and accurate incident reporting, emphasizing that effective policing relies heavily on timely and reliable information sharing. At the same time, he issued a stern warning against the unauthorized sharing of information, especially on social media platforms.
He clarified that only the SLP Media Unit is authorized to communicate with the public and press. All official information must be verified to prevent misinformation, which could damage public trust and operational efficiency.
The meeting also allowed commanders to share updates from their respective departments. Notably, the Regional Crime Officer East, ASP Mohammed Hindolo Feika, presented a comprehensive crime analysis for the region, highlighting recent criminal trends and outlining strategic priorities for the months ahead.
As the session closed, it was evident that AIG Meinday’s leadership blends operational vigilance with a forward-looking vision. His message was clear: the transformation of Sierra Leone Police begins at the command level, emphasizing disciplined leadership, clear communication, and unwavering dedication to public service.
With this renewed focus, residents of the Eastern Region can anticipate a police force that is more responsive, accountable, and committed to rebuilding public trust while effectively addressing crime.
