Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Presidential Spokesperson of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Alpha Kanu, has called on Sierra Leonean business investors to consider the energy sector as a profitable venture.
In an recent media engagement, Kanu stressed on the need for increased energy generation to support sustainable energy supply in the country.
His comments followed President Bio’s address at the opening of the Third Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic, where the president outlined key national issues, including the challenges facing the energy sector.
Kanu directly urged entrepreneurs to view energy as a business opportunity, stating, “Go and generate electricity and sell it to the Government.” He encouraged investors to approach energy generation with the same mindset they use when importing goods, such as rice from China, for trade in Sierra Leone.
He warned against relying solely on the government for energy production, stressing the importance of private investment.
“You should think about this as a business opportunity. We shouldn’t always wait for the Westerners to come and invest because there is enough capital in this country, which we can use to do things like that,” Kanu asserted.
Kanu further proposed a challenge for investors: if any businessman purchases a high-powered generator, installs it in the Brookfield Community, and supplies power to the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), they would receive compensation under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). “You Produce, Government will Pay,” he stated.
