APC MP Hon. AKK Walks Out of Radio Interview

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. This morning’s live interview on Radio 98.1 took an unexpected turn when Honourable Akk, a Member of Parliament from the All People’s Congress (APC), Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK) abruptly left the studio during a heated discussion centered on the party’s recent press release and the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on air, Hon. Akk emphasized the APC’s call for President Julius Maada Bio to act as a true statesman and not merely as leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). He urged the President to guide the country toward a peaceful transition of power when the time comes.

“Due to the APC press release where does it end? It calls on the President to be a statesman, to ensure that he can guide the process of transitioning the country into another president,” Hon. Akk said. “President Bio needs to be the President of Sierra Leone that governs for all Sierra Leoneans. At this time, he carries a global responsibility that requires him to rise above party lines. To have peace and reduce tension, he must act as a statesman.”

During the interview, the host asked Hon. Akk about recent comments made by his colleague, Hon. Mikailu, who had warned that the 2028 elections could make the country “ungovernable” if rigged. In response, Hon. Akk defended Mikailu’s statement, pointing to irregularities he claimed occurred during the 2023 elections.

“Why do they want to rig the election?” he asked. “In the 2023 registration, over 250,000 names were removed from the voter list. People in the North didn’t receive voting materials until around 1:00 p.m. We were still collating results at the regional headquarters when the final announcement was made, and those results did not reflect the true outcome.”

As the conversation intensified, Hon. Akk appeared frustrated by repeated interruptions from the opposition SLPP spokesman, Moses Mambu and what he described as a lack of control by the program hosts.

“I left the 98.1 studio because it was clear that the hosts weren’t in control,” he later explained.
