Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially appointed Sierra Leonean match official Mahmoud A. Conteh as Assistant Referee II for the upcoming CAF Champions League first preliminary round fixture.
The match will feature BADJE FC (Benin) against Al Ahli Tripoli (Libya) and is scheduled to take place on Friday, 19th September 2025, at the prestigious Stade de Kégué in Lomé, Togo.
This appointment further highlights Sierra Leone’s growing recognition in continental football and showcases the trust CAF continues to place in our referees to officiate at the highest level.
He will be the assistant referee 2, a position in which he is expected to promote the goodwill of the Sierra Leone flag in the international arena.
Furthermore, Mamoud Alie Conteh is one of the youngest, vibrant referees in the municipality of Makeni, with his top-notch performance in determining the fate of a match, in line with fair play rules, especially during the country’s top-tier league. He is a modest character and a beacon of hope, not only for his colleagues but for the football fraternity in Sierra Leone.
“This is my first international official assignment, even though I was among six referees selected across Africa for a training in Egypt, and I happen to be the first to be selected from that training, which I am grateful to God for. I am also fortunate to be selected after attaining a FIFA badge to officiate a CAF match instead of a WAFU match as a training ground,” Mamoud elucidated.
“This achievement belongs not only to me but to the people of Bombali and Karene Districts respectively. I will definitely create the enabling environment for other Referees to thrive,” he assured.
