Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) Conrad Sackey oversaw a massive national operation delivering critical teaching and learning materials to primary schools across all five regions and 16 districts.

The initiative addresses concerns raised during the recent teacher strike about the availability of essential classroom resources. Over 523,717 literacy books and 13,500 teacher guides were distributed, ensuring every P1 pupil and teacher has the tools they need. The program represents a direct investment of approximately $850,000 in Sierra Leone’s foundational education system.

Minister Sackey emphasized that this distribution is part of a multi-year strategy to improve learning outcomes. Procurement for P2 materials is already underway, with P3 materials in development a deliberate, three-year plan to build a solid educational foundation for every child.

“This is about equipping our classrooms. Every child receives a book, and every teacher receives a guide with lesson plans and assessments. A strong foundation makes every level of learning that follows easier and more effective,” Minister Sackey stated.

While complementing the broader Performance-Based Financing (PBF) model, the current distribution represents a standalone government commitment, fulfilling a promise made to Sierra Leonean children and teachers.

From Waiwai Mountain to Sulima, and from the Peninsula to the Kamboi Hills, the government is ensuring that no child is left behind. This program is being celebrated not just as a delivery of books, but as a delivery of hope, opportunity, and a brighter future.

Minister Sackey assures that this is only the beginning of a sustained effort to strengthen Sierra Leone’s education system.
