Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio has approved the appointment of Edmond Sylvester Alpha, Electoral Commissioner for the Southern Region, as the Acting Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).
The decision follows the conclusion of the five-year tenure of Chief Electoral Commissioner and ECSL Chairman, Mohamed K. Konneh, whose official term ran from 28th July 2020 to 27th July 2025.
According to an official correspondence from the Office of the President, Mr. Alpha is to serve in an acting capacity starting 21st July 2025. He will oversee the Commission during the period covering Mr. Konneh’s terminal leave and throughout the reappointment or new appointment process.
The letter, which acknowledged receipt of Mr. Konneh’s prior notification to the Secretary to the President, confirms that all appropriate administrative actions will follow in accordance with the transitional arrangements.
As Acting Chairman, Edmond Sylvester Alpha is expected to steer the affairs of ECSL at a critical time for the institution, ensuring continuity and the integrity of electoral operations pending a final decision on the leadership of the Commission.
