Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change have participated in the Sixth Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) in Nairobi, Kenya.
UNEA-6, the world’s highest environmental decision-making body, brought together representatives from governments, civil society, the scientific community, and the private sector. The theme for this year’s assembly is “Effective, inclusive, and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.”
During the event, the EPA and the Ministry played a key role in shaping the future direction of global environmental policies. The Assembly sets the global environmental agenda, provides policy guidance, and develops responses to emerging environmental challenges. It also reviews existing policies, facilitates dialogue, and fosters partnerships to achieve environmental goals.
The Assembly will consider and adopt resolutions proposed by member states, which will serve as a roadmap for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in the coming years.
Additionally, a meeting is planned between Sierra Leone’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Jiwoh Abdulai; EPA Executive Chairman, Abu-Bakar S. Massaquoi; and High Commissioner to Kenya, HE Isatu Aminata Bundu, with senior officials from the UN Office in Nairobi and UNEP. This meeting aims to discuss potential collaboration opportunities for future joint initiatives.
