Fatima Bio Urges SLPP to Prioritize Delivery Over Conflict

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. First Lady Fatima Bio spoke recently about growing tensions within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) after the 2023 election results.

She said since then many party members seem more focused on wanting to become president than on their work.

Speaking at a public gathering, Fatima explained that when a party is full of internal fights over leadership, people stop paying attention to their duties. She said many are now competing to replace President Julius Maada Bio even though he is still serving.

Fatima said wanting to replace President Maada Bio is not a crime. However if the SLPP is going to choose a new leader in the future she said it must be based on his legacy not just his time in office. She said it is important for the party to offer Sierra Leoneans a strong legacy when new leadership comes That legacy must be something people can see and remember not just about holding office but about what was achieved while in office

She added people see her as the “bad person” because she is refusing to let divisions continue She said some people not just within the party have misunderstood her position but her intention is to help maintain order According to Fatima the SLPP needs stability and must focus on delivering on its promises instead of making the leadership fight the priority

Fatima mentioned the party’s “Big Five” agenda and said until SLPP members can stand before the people of Sierra Leone and say they have fulfilled those promises they should set leadership competition aside She said the party must remain focused on its responsibilities especially at a time when the country needs unity and progress

She said she does not want President Maada Bio to leave the party in opposition She urged SLPP members to focus on their responsibilities and maintain unity stressing that the party should be guided by performance and results not internal competition
