Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s senior national male team, Leone Stars has dropped to 118 best football playing country in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

Compared to march where it ranked 108, Sierra Leone has now moved down ten places and now ranks 118 after they secured one point from two AFCON 2023 Qualifiers games against Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau this month. Sierra Leone, having gathered just 1168.21 points moved lower to 25th in Africa and 113 in the World.

Brazil retained the number one position, while Belgium kept their second spot as well but Argentina’s victories over Italy in the Finalissima reflected on the ranking as the Albicelestes are now number 3 in the world while French poor form at the UEFA Nations League dropped them to 4th in the world losing their 3rd position to the Argentines.

The Three Lions of England retain their 5th position to complete the top 5 best teams in the world in that order.On the Africa containment, Senegal remained the number one team. The African Champions added a total of 9.29 points to garner 1593.45 points overall which got back to the top 20 in the world.

Morocco remained in the second position with Tunisia, and Nigeria, in 3rd me fourth respectively while Cameroon completed the top five on the continent replacing Egypt in that position.

Sierra Leone staged a second-half comeback to share spoils with Guinea-Bissau in their matchday two 2023 Group A Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in the Guinean capital in June.

Both West African nations played to a 2-2 draw, and as a result, Sierra Leone placed third in the group after their two opening games. The draw means Guinea-Bissau are now on four points and occupies second place. Nigeria, who thrashed Sao Tome 10-0 in Morocco Stade d Agadir top Group A.

Guinea-Bissau will be guests to the Super Eagles for their third group game in September this year. Sierra Leone will go up against Sao Tome at home and away.
