Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The All People’s Congress (APC) today, May 22, 2025, held an emergency press briefing at its head office in Freetown to address allegations of undermining the party’s registration process.

Lanasan Dumbuya, the national secretary-general of the APC, explained that the briefing was called to clarify recent events concerning party membership.

He noted that the APC had faced several court cases prior to its convention, during which concerns about membership irregularities arose.

“At the time, we observed that a good number of people were trying to bypass the process that was in existence,” Dumbuya stated.

He further highlighted that the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) had advised the APC to establish a robust database and registration process.

Dumbuya revealed that upon receiving the party’s membership database from his predecessor, it contained approximately 40,000 registrations from ITGC and an additional 90,000, totaling around 130,000 members.

“Immediately after the handing over, I told the ITC expert to close that particular database, so that no one could manipulate it,” Dumbuya asserted.

He claimed that when individuals realized they could not manipulate the new registration process, they reverted to using old ID cards, claiming to be long-standing members seeking verification.

“You that are using that process, I want to inform you that it is a waste of effort,” he warned.

Dumbuya also disclosed an incident where a person was found printing old APC ID cards at a printing shop. He confirmed that the printing shop owner and a total of four individuals have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
