Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Inspector General of Police [IGP], William Fayia Sellu has call for a police nursing school as a way of expanding healthcare services to communities across Sierra Leone.
IGP Sellu made this statement while welcoming the sixth batch of Surgeon in Action Foundation from Spain, adding that at their partnership has raised the standard of the Police Hospital and it healthcare delivery.
The Police Hospital he said started small targeting only officers but over time it has grown and now providing service to communities.
“Your coming has raised the standard of our hospital, we are now Teaching Hospital. As an institution, we want to set up our own nursing school” said the Police Chief.
Earlier, the Medical Superintendent of Police Hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh introducing the Surgeon in Action Foundation discloses that in addition to the free surgeries, the foundation has donated an Anesthetic Machine and other medical equipment worth over seventy thousand United States Dollars.
He continued that the 6th Batch is targeting a total of two thousand and seventy-eight (2,078) free surgeries and that since their arrival on Friday 2nd May, 2025, they have already completed eighty-eight (88) surgeries.
Head of the team, Francisco Gomez Marquez expressed their positive experience in Sierra Leone. He praises IGP Sellu hospitality and the effective collaboration with the hospital staff. He confirmed that the free surgical operations are progressing to the satisfaction of the team and patients. Patients were brought from all police regions in the country.
