Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq, during a courtesy call at his Gloucester Street office in Freetown, welcomed a three-member delegation from The Gambia High Commission to discuss Bilateral Cooperation on Security.

Leading the delegation, Mr. Bulli Dibluo, Deputy Head of Mission of The Gambia High Commission, conveyed the purpose of their visit, which was to discuss a proposal for a bilateral cooperation meeting between The Gambia and Sierra Leone, as initiated by both the Gambian Embassy and the Sierra Leonean Embassy, aimed at addressing mutual challenges faced by the two nations.

Mr. Dibluo highlighted the similarities between Gambia and Sierra Leone, stating, “Gambia and Sierra Leone shared similar problems and challenges, the reason the two Embassies initiated a proposal for a bilateral meeting between the two Countries.”

He mentioned that the proposed meeting would focus on critical security matters, including cross-border management, border crimes, drug trafficking, and immigration issues.

He furthered that Sierra Leone could be described as a very small country, but the most peaceful country in West Africa, adding that the delegation is very much appreciative of the opportunities and facilities provided to them in Sierra Leone.

Expressing his gratitude for the hospitality received in Sierra Leone, Mr. Dibluo said, “I have spent a couple of years in Sierra Leone, I am grateful to the President of Sierra Leone and his government for the hospitality.”

In response, Minister Lengor Esq expressed his appreciation on behalf of His Excellency Brig Rtd Julius Maada Bio, acknowledging the longstanding relationship between the two countries, affirming that r he relationship between the two Countries has spanned for ages.

The Minister reinforced the shared values and challenges confronting both nations, emphasizing that continued collaboration could lead to significant improvements in safety and security for citizens residing in both countries.

He proposed the necessity of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) alongside the planned bilateral discussions, focusing on intelligence sharing among key players in the security sector, including the Sierra Leone Police, Office of National Security, and Immigration.

During their discussions, both parties exchanged pleasantries and highlighted the importance of enhancing collaboration and commitment in strengthening security measures between The Gambia and Sierra Leone. The delegation and the Minister expressed optimism for the upcoming bilateral meeting and its potential to foster a stronger international relationship between the two nations.
