Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), through its Publicity Secretary Moses Mambu, has strongly responded to claims by the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) regarding the leadership of the Electoral Commission.
Mambu dismissed assertions that the “Moral Guarantors” had called for the removal of Electoral Commission official Edmond Sylvester Alpha before December 31, 2026, describing the claim as false and misleading. He emphasised that no such directive had been issued and maintained that Alpha remains firmly in position.
According to Mambu, the APC’s actions and pronouncements demonstrate a lack of readiness to govern. He criticised the opposition for what he described as abandoning their responsibilities and engaging in political pressure tactics aimed at forcing President Julius Maada Bio to reverse Alpha’s appointment.
“That will not happen,” Mambu stated, insisting that the current leadership of the Electoral Commission will continue its work without interruption. He further asserted that Edmond Sylvester Alpha and his team will oversee the 2028 elections without any stoppage or obstruction.
Mambu also credited the international community’s confidence in Sierra Leone’s democratic processes to the leadership of President Bio, noting that the government has ensured that all necessary systems remain in place for credible elections.
He added that the SLPP executive, led by Sahr Jimmy Batilo Songa, is committed to what he described as a “massive change” agenda, and encouraged the public to rely on official SLPP communication channels for accurate information.
