Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone edged out Djibouti with a close 2-1 victory in a closely contested match that saw the winner scored midway through the second half.
The match, which finished with a scoreline of Djibouti 1, Sierra Leone 2, was level at halftime after a late equalizer from Sierra Leone.
Djibouti opened the scoring in the 29th minute when forward Abdichakour Farah converted a left-footed shot from the centre of the box, assisted by Idriss Houmed Bilha, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Sierra Leone responded just before the break. In the 45th minute, Juma Bah headed in the equalizer, assisted by Alhassan Koroma, to send the teams into the dressing room locked at 1-1.
The second half remained tight until the 72nd minute, when Sallieu Tarawallie found the back of the net with a left-footed shot to put Sierra Leone ahead 2-1. The decisive goal was assisted by Saidu Fofanah.
Following the goal, both sides made a series of substitutions, with Sierra Leone bringing on Kei Kamara, Mohamed Bangura, Momoh Dumbuya, Mohamed Kabia, and Abu Dumbuya. Djibouti responded with changes including Moussa Wais, Igal Awaleh, and Ahmed Omar.
The referee issued several yellow cards throughout the match for fouls, including one for Djibouti’s Warsama Hassan and three for Sierra Leone players Nathaniel Jalloh and Alpha Turay.
Despite a final four minutes of stoppage time, Sierra Leone held on to their lead to claim the 2-1 win.
