Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG. Morie Lengor Esq received the Spanish Ambassador Angel Carrascal together with Honourable Consul of the Embassy of Spain Antoine Yazbeck and Carlos V Gobiet Lopez, Embassy of Spain Home Affairs Attache at his Gloucester Street Office in Freetown.
The visit aimed to explore areas of cooperation between Sierra Leone and Spain, focusing on strengthening ties and fostering partnerships to advance security, particularly on migration.
Ambassador Carrascal underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between the two Countries, stressing access to and the strategic use of information sharing, to be considered as an essential tool for addressing governance issues, particularly in areas of migration and human trafficking.
He also mentioned their strategy and responsibility for West Africa in managing migration flows and strengthening ties and providing development aid to address the root causes of migration, while emphasizing its importance of human rights in the management of migration.
He noted that West Africa is their priority, and further pledged Spain’s continued support for Sierra Leone’s security priorities, highlighting his Country’s keen interest in expanding collaboration and cooperation, especially in the area of strengthening security.
Furthermore, Minister Lengor Esq, expressed appreciation and honour for Spain’s long-standing partnership in diverse areas of development, as often outlined in the police Force to enhance peace and security. He informed them that the ministry is on the verge of completing its first-ever five-year strategic plan, while providing an overview of the nine Agencies and Departments being supervised by the Ministry, possibly highlighting their roles and responsibilities.
He also acknowledged and emphasised the need for collaboration and partnership to ensure the plan’s successful implementation and delivery, adding that the plan is designed to be transparent and accountable to the people of Sierra Leone and its goals, which include strengthening national security.
Minister Lengor concluded by seeking support and assistance in the form of resources to help these agencies and departments achieve their goals.
