Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. A Moroccan delegation met with the National Commission for Children (NCC) in Freetown on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, to discuss ways of strengthening child protection in Sierra Leone.

The visit was organized through the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs in collaboration with the Children’s Directorate. The Moroccan team was led by Professor Ghizlane Banjellovn, while Sierra Leone’s representation included Assistant Directors Laura Kororma and Aminata Kargbo.

Held at the NCC headquarters, the meeting focused on sharing ideas and practical steps to protect children more effectively. Deputy Commissioner Henry Mustapha Sheku welcomed the visitors and spoke about the NCC’s role in promoting children’s rights. He noted key challenges such as abuse, domestic violence, and online risks, and said that working together and teaching children about their rights are central to the Commission’s work.

Professor Banjellovn described how Morocco involves children in national discussions through initiatives like the Children’s Parliament. She also spoke about the importance of including mental health education and support in child protection systems.

Commissioner Joyce Wuyah Tejan-Kella expressed appreciation for the visit, calling it timely and meaningful. She said the NCC values partnerships like this and remains committed to improving child welfare through local and international cooperation.

The meeting wrapped up with a discussion on possible areas of collaboration, including sharing knowledge, improving policy, and running joint programs. The Moroccan delegation presented a symbolic gift to Commissioner Tejan-Kella, marking the shared commitment between the two countries.
