Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Former Minister of Internal Affairs and SLPP flagbearer aspirant, Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally, has expressed serious concern over the rapid spread of Kush, Tramadol, and other hard drugs across Sierra Leone.
His remarks, made in a video message circulating widely on social media, criticized government agencies for what he described as a growing national drug crisis.
Describing the situation as a “national menace,” Hon. Tarawally warned that drug abuse is destroying families and jeopardizing the future of young people. “This is not a pandemic; it is a failure in the control of crime,” he said, highlighting the impact on university students, parents, and youths, many of whom have become addicted, displaced, and left behind broken homes.
The former minister directly criticized the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Office of the Vice President, Drug Enforcement Agency, Transnational Organized Crime Unit, and the Ministry of Health, accusing them of neglecting their constitutional duties to protect citizens. “This is organized crime, and the syndicates behind Kush are not being held accountable,” he asserted.
He also blamed the Pharmacy Board for allowing the importation and uncontrolled sale of drugs like Tramadol without proper prescriptions, which he said has worsened the addiction problem.
Hon. Tarawally called on President Julius Maada Bio to take decisive action. “You are the custodian of the Constitution. You must act now to protect the lives and future of our youth. Sierra Leone cannot afford another war not of guns, but of addiction,” he stated.
He further appealed to civil society groups, religious leaders, and the media to join efforts in tackling the drug epidemic.
His comments have sparked nationwide debate, with increasing public calls for the government to intensify its response to the growing Kush crisis.
