NDMA Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Sierra Leone

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet), through the National Disaster Management Agency (Ndma), has issued an urgent public advisory warning of heavy rainfall forecasted to hit Sierra Leone over the next three days.

The warning follows a climate forecast by the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency, which has observed moderate to heavy rainfall across several parts of Sierra Leone, particularly the Western Area, Northern, Southern, and Eastern regions. These weather conditions are expected to continue over the next three days, 12th to 14th September 2025.

Furthermore, the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency and the National Disaster Management Agency have therefore alerted the general public that these conditions may result in: isolated poor visibility, Slippery road surfaces, Flooding in vulnerable and low-lying areas, and Disruption of normal activities.

The public is strongly advised to take the following precautionary measures: Motorists and road users should exercise extreme caution. At the same time, travelling, Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas should remain vigilant and move to safer grounds if necessary, Stay updated with official weather information and advisories from SLMet & NDMA.

Also, ensure to clean the drainage to reduce the risk of flooding. Parents and guardians should monitor children closely and discourage them from playing in flooded areas.

The NDMA and the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency emphasise that this is an early warning and that all citizens must remain vigilant and prioritise safety during this period.
