Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. As SLPP (Sierra Leone people’s Party) prepares for a new district in the Easter region, Sierra Leone Parliament too is preparing to halt the move saying it is illegal.

Panguma district, one of the five district in the colonial period would be the new district to emerge in Sierra Leone before President Julius Maada Bio leaves governance.

By the “Divide and Rule’ Policy of the colonial Masters, Five Districts in Ronietta, Bandajuma, Panguma, Karena and Bombali existed. The political division pleased the colonial government at the time time who saw the system as cheap to run.

The growth of populations and the emergence of new states carved new districts in Sierra Leone. If Panguma is formed, two of the colonial districts have been restored as Karene too is now slow in full swing thanks to former President Ernest Bai Koroma.The Protectorate Ordinance of Cap 60 of the law of Sierra Leone confers powers on a sitting President to divide the country in accordance with the administrative convenience.

The eastern Province already has three district and the emergence of new states carved new districts in Sierra Leone .If Panguma is formed, two of the colonial districts have been restored as Karene too is now in full swing thanks to former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
