Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Aviation has conducted an oversight visit to the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) to assess its operations, regulatory compliance and capacity to manage the country’s aviation sector.

The visit, held on Thursday, 29 January 2026, forms part of Parliament’s constitutional mandate to monitor institutions under its supervision.

The delegation, led by Committee Chairman Hon. Dickson Momoh Rogers and his deputy, engaged directly with SLCAA management to gain first-hand insight into the Authority’s structure, systems and challenges.

Director General of SLCAA, Madam Musayeroh Barrie, welcomed the lawmakers and provided a detailed briefing on the Authority’s mandate and performance. She highlighted SLCAA’s role in regulating civil aviation, ensuring adherence to international safety standards and overseeing aviation security and economic regulation.

Madam Barrie emphasized that the Civil Aviation Act 2023 has strengthened the legal framework guiding the Authority’s work, while also outlining challenges such as limited resources and the need for continuous capacity building.

The parliamentary team was also taken on a guided tour of the SLCAA offices to observe operational workflows and administrative systems.

At the end of the engagement, members of the Parliamentary Committee commended SLCAA for its efforts in promoting aviation safety and maintaining regulatory standards. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting policies and investments that will strengthen the Authority and improve the aviation sector. The visit further reinforced accountability, transparency and collaboration between Parliament and the SLCAA, with both parties pledging to work together to enhance safety, efficiency and public confidence in Sierra Leone’s aviation industry.
