Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), along with the National Security Coordinator (NSCORD/ONS) and the Sierra Leone Police, has issued a joint statement urging all residents to collect their National ID Cards before August 31, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement calling on both Sierra Leonean citizens and foreign nationals living in the country to take part in this mandatory exercise.
Abdulai Caulker, head of the Office of National Security (ONS), said the authorities have made several press releases encouraging everyone to collect their cards. He noted that many people have still not collected their National ID Cards despite these efforts.
Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, added that having a National ID Card helps the police identify individuals more easily. He also mentioned that the police will soon begin stopping people to check their ID cards.
Mohamed Massaquoi, Director General of NCRA, said that teams are now visiting communities and chiefdoms to make it easier for people to get their ID Cards, even in far districts. He stressed there is no excuse for not collecting the card.
Massaquoi also said that after August 31, the price of the National ID Card will increase to cover production and other costs. The current price is 145 leones and will remain the same until the deadline. After that, the new price will be announced to the public.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this time to collect their cards at the current price.
