Political Parties Face Expulsion Over Campaign Violations

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Political Party Regulation Commission (PPRC) has warned that it may resort to the cancellation of political parties that continue to defy its ban on campaign materials displayed in public places.

The stern message was conveyed by Lucien H.L. Momoh, the Director of Training and External Relations at the PPRC, during a recent interview.

The commission had issued a press release ordering the immediate removal of political parties’ internal elections campaign materials from public spaces across the country.

Momoh emphasized that the PPRC is legally mandated to enforce sanctions against parties that fail to comply with this directive. “We have warned them to remove their campaign materials at the shortest possible time,” Momoh stated.

He explained that the commission has the authority to issue warning letters to noncompliant parties. Should they ignore these warnings, the PPRC is prepared to impose fines. If the fines are also disregarded, the commission will have no choice but to expel the offending political parties.

To ensure compliance, PPRC staff will be deployed to monitor the streets. Momoh stated, “If any political material is found on the streets, we will issue out a notice to them individually and to their parties, warning them to take them off the street with immediate effect, or face the full force of the law.”
