The Premier League Board, under the leadership of Chairman Victor Lewis, held a pivotal dialogue session with representatives from Bo Rangers and East End Lions in preparation for their upcoming Leone Rock Premier League match. The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Approved School Playing Field.
The meeting brought together key football stakeholders, including the National Sports Authority, Ministry of Sports, Sierra Leone Football Association, and Sierra Leone Police. The primary focus was to implement measures to prevent a repeat of the violence that marred the FA Cup Final in Port Loko.
Chairman Victor Lewis underscored the importance of these discussions, stating, “Violence has no place in our sport,” and urged both East End Lions and Bo Rangers to ensure their supporters maintain peace at all costs.
Speaking on behalf of East End Lions, Anthony Junior Navo emphasized the necessity of the meeting and committed to creating a sensitization video for their supporters to promote a peaceful atmosphere during and after the match.
Bo Rangers Chairman Babadi Kamara reaffirmed their dedication to quality football and highlighted the brotherhood between the two clubs. He also called on the Premier League Board to ensure adequate security for all clubs involved.
Deputy Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Dr. Abdulrahman Swaray, and the Director of Sports, Ministry of Sports, Haroun Korjie, expressed their concerns about the recent violence in the country’s football scene and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in sports.
Superintendent Durosemi Peeler, Officer in Charge for Kissy Division, assured the public of a peaceful and well-secured match. He pledged that sufficient security personnel would be deployed, adhering to football safety and security protocols.
The Premier League Board assured all stakeholders that the East End Lions vs. Bo Rangers match on Saturday would be conducted peacefully, reinforcing the message that football is a sport of peace.
