Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Myk Berewa, Director of Communications at State House, has stated that President Julius Maada Bio has no intention of running for a third term in office.

He made this known during an online interview following the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) National Delegates Conference.

Berewa explained that the president is focused on completing his second and final term and wants everyone in government and the party to stay committed to the work ahead. He said the president has made no move to extend his time in office and has shown no interest in continuing after his current mandate ends.

Berewa added that President Bio has not endorsed anyone to take over leadership of the SLPP and believes it is too early for such discussions. He said the president made this clear during his speech at the party conference and described it as the right step at this stage, not something done out of concern or pressure.

He said President Bio is still the Commander-in-Chief and the elected leader of the country until the end of his term and the focus should remain on that responsibility. According to Berewa, the president’s message also served as a caution to those in public office, reminding them to concentrate on their duties and not get distracted by succession politics.

Berewa also explained that if the government does not focus on fulfilling its duties, it may struggle to win public support in the next election. He pointed to areas the president wants attention given to, such as education, roads, health care, youth employment, and public services.

According to Berewa, during the conference, President Bio listed five key qualities that anyone hoping to lead the SLPP should have. These include someone who has done real work, the ability to lead, and readiness to serve not just the party but the country as a whole.

He noted that the president is not worried about early succession talk and is not backing any particular candidate. Berewa said the president wants everyone to remain focused on delivering real progress before the end of his term.
