Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. As the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) prepares for its National Delgates Conference, Robert Kondema Kargbo has emerged as a clear favorite for the Deputy National Chairman role, garnering significant support from the party’s grassroots, particularly its youth wing.
The Independent Election and Monitoring Oversight Committee (IEMOC) of the SLPP successfully oversaw the nominations for the National and Deputy Chairman positions.
While Batilo Jimmy Songa and Ing. Amara Jambai Kanneh are strong contenders for the National Chairmanship, the race for Deputy National Chairman includes prominent figures such as Honorable Veronica Kadie Sesay, Mr. Alpha Kallon, Robert Kondema Kargbo, and former Resident Minister North, Abu Abu.
During his interview at the SLPP headquarters on Wallace Johnson Street, Robert Kondema Kargbo drew a substantial and enthusiastic crowd of young supporters, underscoring his popularity among the party’s youth base.
Supporters believe that electing Kargbo would significantly strengthen the party’s connection with young people, not only in the Western Area but across the entire country.
This sentiment aligns with President Julius Maada Bio’s demonstrated trust in youth leadership, with many young individuals currently holding key positions in his cabinet and heading various agencies. These young leaders have, in many instances, demonstrated a high degree of responsibility and effectiveness in their roles.
Observers suggest that this same synergy should extend to the internal politics of the SLPP. With the 2028 elections on the horizon, party unity and expansion are paramount. Many believe that individuals like Robert Kondema Kargbo, who possesses a strong connection with the grassroots and a proven track record of addressing youth issues, are essential for solidifying the SLPP’s presence nationwide.
Kargbo has been credited with introducing several empowerment schemes for women and youth, including microcredit and other impactful initiatives. His consistent support for the SLPP and his efforts in promoting President Bio’s agenda through his medium, Heritage newspaper, are also frequently highlighted. Delegates are urged to consider strengthening the party’s youth wing, which constitutes its largest bloc, by entrusting them with leadership roles such as the Deputy National Chairman
