Samura Kamara Calls for Unity and National Commitment on Sierra Leone’s 64th Independence Day

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The former Chairman of the All People’s Congress, Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara, in his national address to commemorate Sierra Leone’s 64th Independence Day, called for unity and national commitment.

His speech focused on the themes of national unity, integrity, and the importance of active citizenship as the country reflects on its past and looks towards its future.

Dr. Kamara commenced his address by expressing gratitude for the freedom earned through the sacrifices of previous generations. He stated, “Independence is not just a history we celebrate, it is a responsibility we carry forward,” urging citizens to honor those sacrifices by working diligently toward fulfilling the dreams that have been passed down.

Addressing the challenges Sierra Leone has faced, Dr. Kamara recognized the nation’s resilience and the “unstoppable spirit of unity” among its people. He called on all Sierra Leoneans, with a particular emphasis on the youth, to reject division and embrace a commitment to national service. “Let us choose unity over conflict,” he said, illustrating his vision of a cooperative nation moving away from corruption and despair.

The former chairman outlined a vision for a Sierra Leone where every citizen can achieve dignity and opportunity, contending that the vision is attainable through collective action. “On this Independence Day, I reaffirm my commitment to a Sierra Leone that works for everyone,” he declared, asserting that justice, prosperity, and peace should be tangible realities for all.

Dr. Kamara urged citizens to view the Independence Day not just as a moment for reflection, but as a pivotal point for renewed commitment. He emphasized the necessity of building a new covenant among the people, defined by integrity, service, and mutual sacrifice. “Let us therefore engage our collective strengths to conquer our difficulties,” he encouraged, aiming to unite the country’s diverse population.

He envisioned a new dawn for Sierra Leone, where citizens’ voices are heard, dreams are validated, and every individual thrives. He criticized the prevalence of political propaganda and insincere promises, calling for accountability among leaders and a demand for truth in public discourse.

In closing, Dr. Kamara offered blessings to his fellow citizens: “May God bless you all. May God bless the Republic of Sierra Leone. Long live Sierra Leone!”
