Sierra Leone Aims to Reduce Onion Importation by The End of 2024

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security together with Partners is set to reduce the too much of Importation of onions in the country.

The Minister of Agriculture, Henry Musa Kpaka maintained that, the push is greatly in force in seeing that, the goal is achieved as stares.

“The push to reduce onion importation in #SierraLeone is in full swing. @PresidentBio harvested onions at PCS’ farm yesterday. This year they will produce 2200 MT of onions, and reduce their importation accordingly. This makes a 10% dent to the annual onion imports in the country” he stated.

He committed that, they will continue to support PCS and Showcase their success because they are a project example of President Bio’s vision of Feed Salone. “from the biggest Importer of onions to the biggest producers. This move for them is more profitable, impactful and patriotic “ the Minister emphasized.

He maintained that, they want to replicate this move with other value chains across the country where big agribusiness, working with smallholder farmers to boost productivity and scale up production as that that how they can promote the Feed Salone initiative.

In his statement, the Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh maintained that, the government of President Bio is ready to deliver in improving the lives of every Sierra Leonean.
