Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Government of Sierra Leone has reportedly taken a major action against Dangote Cement (SL) Ltd by halting its operations due to an outstanding freight levy debt of $653,300 that has remained unpaid since 2020.

The enforcement was carried out by the National Revenue Authority (NRA), specifically through its Non-Tax Revenue Department, led by Commissioner Tom Vandy, with assistance from the Deputy Commissioner of NTR and the Domestic Tax Department Compliance Unit.

Officials from the NRA sealed off the company’s administrative office, control room, and production room, effectively bringing all operations to a standstill until the debt is settled.

The NRA stated that the action is part of a broader initiative to ensure that businesses fulfill their fiscal responsibilities and to maintain the integrity of Sierra Leone’s revenue collection system.

The authority aims to send a clear message to other potential defaulters regarding the importance of adhering to financial obligations to the government.
