Sierra Leone Lands Ministry Secures $20 Million for Housing

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Lands has secured $20 million from Shelter Afrique to help more people get affordable homes.

The arrangement includes a new mortgage credit line from the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) to assist more individuals in purchasing homes.

Another provision of the agreement will help the Sierra Leone Housing Corporation (SALHOC) create and manage more social housing for low and middle income families. This collaboration came after discussions between the Ministry and Shelter Afrique, which included the Minister’s recent visit to Algeria for Shelter Afrique’s Annual General Meeting.

In another development, Shelter Afrique has appointed Dr. Turad Senesie, Minister of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning, to chair the Technical Committee of the ECOWAS Housing Ministers.

According to Dr. Senesie, the collaboration will help transform government strategy into action.

“Housing for all Sierra Leoneans is a central pillar of our governance agenda. The SLCB mortgage line and SALHOC revitalization translate policy into action, widening access to affordable financing and strengthening social housing for lower and middle-income families.”

According to the Ministry, this project contributes to its goal of making safe and affordable housing available to more people across the country through collaboration with foreign partners and local banks.
