Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Bockarie Kalokoh, and the Director General of the Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone (PDSL), Mr. Foday Mansaray, participated in the Invest in African Energy 2025 conference held in Paris on May 13-14, 2025.

The event, which was recognized as the continent’s premier forum outside Africa, aims to foster collaboration and investment opportunities among international and African delegates.

During the conference, Mr. Mansaray highlighted Sierra Leone’s growing potential in the oil and gas sector, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to regional collaboration and sustainable investment, admitting that the country is open for investment and eager to collaborate with partners.

Highlighting the nation’s potential, Mr. Mansaray announced that drilling is set to begin in 2026, paving the way for Sierra Leone to become a net exporter of oil and gas. He addressed investor concerns by detailing efforts to de-risk offshore prospects through the acquisition of new 3D seismic data, with work starting in June 2025.

Additionally, Mr. Mansaray shared insights from a study by PVE Consulting Ltd., which revealed that Sierra Leone has an estimated 20 billion barrels of recoverable oil, which would position the country as an attractive destination for investment in the energy sector.

Addressing concerns from potential investors, Mr. Mansaray noted that Sierra Leone has taken proactive steps to de-risk its offshore prospects, which includes acquiring new 3D seismic data over the northwest area of the basin, with work scheduled to begin in early June 2025.

He also mentioned ongoing collaboration with TGS to reprocess existing 3D data, particularly focusing on the promising 3-billion-barrel Vega prospect.

The Invest in African Energy Forum also provided a platform for networking among various stakeholders in the oil and gas industry, facilitating discussions that could lead to future collaborations and investments in Sierra Leone’s energy landscape.
