Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone Women’s Cricket Team paraded through the streets of Freetown following their victory in the four-nation BCA Kalahari Women’s T20i Tournament in Gaborone, Botswana.
The team received a warm welcome as they proudly marched into Freetown, greeted by cheers and praise from the people and fans. Their remarkable determination and teamwork led them to triumph in all seven matches against tough competitors, including Mozambique, Eswatini, and the host nation, Botswana. This achievement is a true testament to their hard work, resilience, and love for the game.
The reception was a spectacular gathering of hundreds of cricket enthusiasts and fans. The procession began at Hastings, winding through the streets of Freetown until reaching its final destination at Kingtom.
Addressing the players, CSL Board Chairman Francis Trevor Samura hailed the Ladies as heroines. He mentioned that congratulatory messages were pouring in from around the world, commending the team for proving their critics wrong. He praised their dedication to training in all weather conditions and encouraged them to keep their focus.
Samura also discussed upcoming tournaments the Ladies will participate in, noting that their recent win has inspired young players. He promised the team a celebratory dinner at a later date.
Sports personality Madam Pamela Williams emphasized the importance of recognizing successful sporting disciplines. She suggested that CSL present the Ladies to the Minister of Sport for acknowledgment by President Bio.
The reception was attended by members of the Cricket Sierra Leone Board, players, fans, sports personalities, and journalists. NSA Chief Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai and his team expressed satisfaction with the Women’s Patriots’ performance in the continental series, highlighting the government’s efforts to support sports development.
