Sierra Queens Maintains 141st Position in March FIFA Rankings

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s national women’s football team, the “Sierra Queens,” maintained their 141st position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

This stagnant ranking reflects the Queens’ lack of participation in international competitions since August 2023 due to funding constraints. While other teams racked up points through 126 international matches played worldwide during the ranking period (August 2023 – March 2024), the Queens lost a small amount of ground, dropping 0.02 points from their previous score.

Despite the lack of recent activity, the Queens remain the highest-ranked team in their region compared to neighbors Guinea and Liberia, and 15 other African nations.

Across the continent, several teams made significant progress. World Cup debutants Morocco enjoyed the biggest leap, climbing a stunning 20 positions to 58th place. South Africa also enjoyed a positive jump, rising an impressive 9 spots to 45th. Nigeria retained its position as Africa’s top team, climbing 8 places to 32nd globally. Zambia’s Copper Queens also climbed the ladder, moving from 77th to 69th.

On the global stage, Sweden, who secured bronze at the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup, claimed the top spot in the overall rankings.
